Remembering Ashley Morris…

Filed under: Ashley Morris,New Orleans,NOLA Bloggers — Tags: , , — Morwen Madrigal @ 8:51 pm

Here’s a link to another memorial to Ashley Morris (who left us way too damn early). The article also includes the memorial from the Big Easy Rollergirls, of whom his wife Hana, aka Soviet Block, is a member.

Though those of us in the NOLA Blogosphere have calmed down a little about learning of Ashley’s death a week ago, there is much activity occurring setting up fundraisers and working on details for his funeral this Friday.

“The Perfesser” leaves a wonderful wife and three young children with our eclectic family here in New Orleans. Please visit “Remember Ashley Morris” in order to help his family out during this trying period in their lives.

Part of New Orleans is Missing

Filed under: Ashley Morris,Blog,New Orleans,Update — Tags: , , , — Morwen Madrigal @ 1:32 am

Tonight we came home and found out that one of the bright lights of New Orleans is gone. Doctor Ashley Morris died yesterday in Florida.

His wit, thought, sarcasm and the ability to do strange, but appropriate, things with expletives boggles the mind. Often I would wake, power up the monitor and bust out laughing over his latest piece. One never knew what was going to appear on those pages.

In person Ashley was a person that could make you feel good about yourself even when you couldn’t see it. He was energy, good pure “juice”. He loved New Orleans and his family. He also had many good friends. The NOLA Blogosphere is somewhat reeling right now: our drummer is gone.

Of all the things I remember about Ashley (not counting the cigars) was the time I referred to the streetcars running here again as “trolleys”. Ashley lost no time in informing me that I had spent too many years living in San Francisco, and that in New Orleans they were “streetcars”. I still giggle when I think of that comment.

Ashley, Great Mime? Rock the Summer Country Darlin’!

Namaste

Update- Adrastos has a few great pics up of the “Perfesser”.

Our House- March 25th, ’08

Moving-in day is coming finally. Walls are painted, trim is going in, cabinets and countertops mounted next week. Here’s some current pics- 03/025/08.
Gas goes in Thursday and electric next week. Back staircase will take some time, so we won’t use the back door.

I’m hoping we can move in by the weekend of April 12th. The outside siding will be mounted after we are back in the house, and the front staircase should finally have handrails too. The driveways are a mystery, but they’re just gravel.

We do need to get some curtains just in case the workers are around and I’ve decided it’s a bra and panty day for doing things around the house. *giggles* Wouldn’t do to distract them whilst working, ‘eh?

Al Copeland is Dead.

Filed under: Food and Drink,New Orleans — Tags: , — Morwen Madrigal @ 4:44 pm

Al Copeland has died in Germany.

Having been elsewhere for much of Copeland’s place on the stage we call home, there’s not much I can say about the man other than the fact he founded Popeyes Chicken and some other interesting eateries. He lived a flambouyant life. He did good things with some of his money, and he seemed to create a stir everywhere in his life.

‘Tis a pity… Al Copeland was one of the characters of New Orleans, and he will be missed.

It’s the last half of the article that really got me: this is why we LIVE HERE!

What Rock Did Sally Kern Crawl Out From Under?

From Oklahoma comes yet another fucking B/S screed maligning people of the Queer tribe. From Pam’s House Blend comes a good discussion of this homophobic bitch’s viewpoint on her constituants. (and the YouTube piece… )

(And now comes my cunning plan… )
So with this in mind the Church of Our Lady of Gentilly will now sponsor the Queer Consortium. The QC will be our infiltrative arm of the movement to totally subvert the Hyper-Conservative movement and the Religious Reich’s “Hit” Contract on America and Her peoples. The QC cannot allow domestic terrorists such as Sally Kern to destroy our Republic or the freedoms all Americans enjoy. Ridicule, rotten eggs and risque dress are our Three-Rs. There is no battleground on which we will not fight the amoebiac-minded creatures that wish to return our culture to the days of the Dark Ages.

Our ultimate goal is to move all of Humanity into the 21st Century C.E. from the enemy’s roots of the 10th Century B.C.E.. To help Humanity grow up and flower.
Please send your contributions for this noble venture care of my Blog. This will help us provide stylish uniforms, berets, dozens of rotten eggs and the appropriate leather/metal gear our warriors will require. (And of course, a dance track.) We also desire appropriate aircraft (hot-air balloons, helicopters and planes) with which to dump the proper amount of horse dung upon our enemies as the situation requires. (This may require several thousand horses and land to allow us to be properly vigilant and drop on schedule.)
If you value your lives, loves, fetishes and inebriants, please enlist for the Glorious War against the agents of Conservatism and Stone-Age living. Defend the Right of just being who you are and the Golden Rule. Aid us in ushering in the Age of Homo Futuris. (And have a damn good time in doing so.)

Welcome to the New World…

Update: The YouTube link is here… I’m finally placed something like this on my Blog. Color me shocked.

Are We Contaminating the Nation?

Oh Goddess! The Diasphora from the Federal Flood of New Orleans is now growing roots elsewhere.

The Right Wing thinks they have destroyed our wonderful culture here, but the spores of our ways have now been distributed across the country. *giggles* It’s a wonderful thing to wake up to.

Hey AmeriKKKa! You are going to be “assimulated” by the “Other”.

Payback is a BITCH, ‘eh?
