Today is a very Sacred day to me and mine. Yes, putting on a costume and running around is a blast, but this day means much more than just the frivolities: it’s a day to reflect on the last year and honor those who have left this plane and to look at what has gone down over the last year.
Tonight I will be thinking about a friend that died a few days ago from some strange things. (ruined my game during the tourney last night… the game meant nothing once someone told me he had passed.) He wanted me to help with a cyber presentation for his new product line.
I’ll also be pondering the events of the last year: the trials and tribulations of getting our home fixed and the souls that went by the wayside during the cycle. The many wins and losses also must be looked at, and then there must come the postulate for the next year: what shall I do in the Future?
The first thing is to get our home and the compound fixed. The next is to keep working on making life better for the folks in New Orleans and putting a monkey-wrench into the money-pigs’ plans that will harm our culture here. To continue to fight the Third Battle For New Orleans.
This is the third Samhain since the Federal Flood. The first I mourned for the damage and the dislocations of folks and the lives lost. Last year was concerned with all of us coming home. This year is about a completion and a new beginning.
My wish is that we all look at the last cycle, mourn the losses, forgive the transgressions and look to a new year and what may come.
It’s a new world Darlins.
The mother-fucking Christian assholes and Yuppies have finally found a way to destroy one of the best Pagan and Queer celebrations in this country.
I saw this coming in ’95 (not this, but the influence of non- San Franciscan dot-com money pigs buying up the landscape). That’s why I had to leave: a retail manager couldn’t exist with the Yuppies pushing up property values and rents.
The reason I am posting this, outside of the fact that we used the Halloween Celebration to help fund HIV issues for 15 years, is that it could easily happen here. Not just Halloween, but all that we hold as sacred, a part of our Culture could go down the shitter because the “new” arrivals to our city “Just don’t like it”.
I lost my San Francisco to the Yuppie assholes and their ways. I will not lose this battle for the soul of New Orleans. Fuck Yuppies, fuck the rich that desire once-a year condos. Stay out of our city you sliming pieces of money.
I’m craving some Blackened Voodoo beer. Read it here.
One bad aspect to going to sleep after the sun rises is that ya’s miss the news that comes around in the morning (but you do catch the stories that the rest of the world sees hours later as the have their coffee).
So this is what I find upon rising from my resting place in order to start another day of luring souls to Hell: Eddie “The Hat” Jordan has resigned as our District Attorney.
Of course the taxpayers are still on the hook for the court judgement for his Racist actions, but maybe now we will see prosecutions coming from the D.A.’s Office and the scum will get scraped from our streets and deposited elsewhere. (Imagine the sight of the gang-bangers and crack dealers packing up and driving into the sunset…. tres kewl and more than worth the $3.7 million for the removal of Jordan’s B/S).
Goodbye Mr. Hat… you’re just another peon (and a failed one at that) now.
On Samhain please join us at Starlight By the Park for a Pride fundraiser and one hell of a great time.
Now that the gang is working on the structural aspect of the house I’ve started taking photos of the repair work.
Many floor joists had to be replaced because of rotting from the top edge (leaky plumbing for years). We couldn’t see it from below once the house was raised, but when the botch-job flooring from the previous owners was ripped up, almost half of the joists had to be replaced. It’s fine by me since I don’t relish falling through the floor when I’m on the potty, and I damn sure don’t want the pool table crashing onto the garage floor (“Oh the Humanity!”).
The rafters are being replaced and properly tied into the old portion of the house. How the place survived with this incompletion I do not know, but it’s getting fixed now.
Next week the slab will be poured and the string-walls built. Rebar ties all of this together with the pillars and creates a great foundation for the place. The front staircase also goes in at this time, and all of the lower area will be able to handle up to a 300 mph wind blast. (Plumbing and electrical starts during the week too.)
These guys are amazing in how fast and accurately they are working. Their attention to detail is fantastic considering how many changes are happening inside the house and their thoughtfulness when it comes to our living in what will be a very easily managed home is laudable (Just have to keep them reined in concerning costs. *rolls eyes*). We are also replacing the windows and cutting down on the total number of them in order to be able to add storm shutters for more protection.
The Pool House is almost finished, and the other cottage will be functional near the end of the year. The back deck (imagine a courtyard with a 12′ wide mezzanine surrounding it) is going to be so tres kewl! It’s reminding me of some places in the Quarter in look and feel. I just need to get back into the house so I can rebuild the courtyard at my leisure in order to restore the old ambiance of the place, and that can’t happen until the boys are done.
The front yard is going to hold four driveways (two for us and two for our tenants), so we’ve decided on doing the remainder as a rock garden. The drainage to the street will also be improved by putting in a pipe and filling in the ditch so the yard stops eroding into the storm drains.
It’ll probably be late Spring before I can start rebuilding the side yard, but that’s the breaks. I won’t be able to put in the new trees until next Fall now, so we get to ponder more on what we want this part of the compound to be like.
Hie thee to Creative Loafing for the latest on the ENDA debacle.
Loki at Humid City finally posted the Bill Moyers interview with a journalist that was here during the Flood concerning Blackwater.
Was Eric Prince angling for a Federal contract by bringing his shock troops into New Orleans to prove a point?
So, you become the first Afro-American D.A. in the city’s history, so’s ya’s goes in, fire all the white folks and hire Blacks to replace them and think everything is tres kewl with this shit?
You lose the case against the wrongfully fired, and every damned appeal you can muster, and now you state that the city must pay the fine? That we are somewhat responsible for your paranoia and Racist insanity? Have you lost your bat-shit lunatic Racist mind?
You who can’t get a big indictment to save your soul?
Fuck you Bro! You played the race card and then couldn’t perform your job and we have to pay for your criminal actions. Fuck you twice Bro. Savvy? I’m not paying the damages from the Racial purging by one of any fucking Race in government. Damned cocksucker…
You should pay the $3.2 Mil for your crime, and if you can’t pull it off, then your children are liable for the damages, not those of us who are innocent of your sick mind and it’s neurosis. You are the criminal, and YOU must pay the price Mr. Jordan. (They are going to love you being a cell-mate in Angola.)
The other path Mr.Jordan is that you resign your office as D.A. and the city will cover your debt. You will be barred for life from seeking elective office. (Don’t like that one, ‘eh?)
Ta, Ta, and thanks for all the fish, NOT.
Update- Fieikow responds to Eddie the “Hat”.
An interesting idea from Max over at The Levee.
