Trash Talk…

I’ve been waging a battle with the garbage collectors over the last two months here in slum-lord land. Two weeks ago an “official” can was delivered to our real home in Sugar Hill (and our contractors are there and they are armed), but I have not received a city-sanctioned can for the hovel that we currently reside in. (And yes I will have to buy another can for my rentals since we don’t have two street numbers, but we own half a block.)

Here’s some accounts.
I’ve called many times to get an official can for this rental, but to no avail. Now the “workers” won’t pick up my cat litter bags (must be the 25# rule thanks to our City Council members in April). They took the lid off my trash can two weeks ago in a pouring rain and now it is a Superfund Site. I have two bags of litter on my stoop that the “boys” can’t find the energy to throw into a truck.

So this is the result of contracting with minority-owned businesses? Satellite tracking for garbage cans? A 25# limit on trash weight? Trash cans that can hold 120#s easily, but it will exceed the weight limits?

(Yeppers, here comes the tirade, but do remember that I am Black and White, Creole if you please, and everything else that percolates in New Orleans outside of the Asian folks. I only take the side of the common person… the Commons so to speak.)

So we have a Black-based administration making contracts with “minority-owned” businesses for City services. First off, if the majority of the populace in New Orleans is Black, how does a Black-owned business become “Minority-owned”? How is it that we as citizens are paying twice the amount we used to pay for garbage removal and then we find out that anything above 25#s is not acceptable to be taken from our curbs?

Betts and I pay to have the debris removed from our home from our rebuilding. This stuff is not storm material, but the trash from making the place right. This is a cost that we accept because we do strive to be good citizens (unlike the folks that filled our dumpsters with their crap that they weren’t willing to pay to be removed. Yes… my Black relatives.) That amounted to $450 a pop from our purses, and no “Thank You” from the majority in our neighborhood that “used” us.

Still, we will continue to be good neighbors on our part. That’s just how we are.

So where the fuck am I going with all of this? There are basically two kinds of people in this world: those who only can “see” that which is colored or has the same thought-process they live by, and the rest of us who are part of the polyglot society that this Republic was founded for.

We, the polyglot culture, evaluates folks on their character, not skin color, religion (I’m sadly lacking here, but I have my reasons) or philosophy. People are people, and we have to live with each other in this world. Let’s play nice, okay?

Here in New Orleans we have the chance that most places will never have: we have to rebuild our homeplace. The populace of this place must remove the Race-blinders and embrace the all that is trying to rebuild this area. (Well fuck the gang-banger/crack assholes and the White money-pigs) What we do here and now determines the Future of our Nation. This is the proving ground. This is where America learns it’s next lesson.

This place is where the Future begins, and all of us here have a front-row seat. WE DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF AMERICA. We here in NOLA, at this point in time and space, control the destiny and path of a Nation. Never doubt that one kids. This is the place where the Social Contract comes into play, and it’s up to all of us to reaffirm our support of what this country is to be… black, white, yellow… doesn’t freakin’ matter. We are all equal in the One’s eyes.

So how did I get from a shitty trash contract to this pronouncement?

It is time here to end the Negro Administration of the City. Black, White, Asian and Creoles need to become the moving force in this area. No more Class-warfare, no more Race crap. This is all of our homes and lives, and it’s time that all of us take control of our city. I “see” the possibilities, I know that we are capable, but I doubt the courage of conviction…

Prove the old Swamp Witch wrong darlin’s. Let’s create the New World.

And meanwhile we must deal with the mess that our disgraced Negro D.A. left us concerning his Racist actions.Â (Once again my relatives disgust me.)

Da “Hat” Has Left the Building

One bad aspect to going to sleep after the sun rises is that ya’s miss the news that comes around in the morning (but you do catch the stories that the rest of the world sees hours later as the have their coffee).

So this is what I find upon rising from my resting place in order to start another day of luring souls to Hell: Eddie “The Hat” Jordan has resigned as our District Attorney.

Of course the taxpayers are still on the hook for the court judgement for his Racist actions, but maybe now we will see prosecutions coming from the D.A.’s Office and the scum will get scraped from our streets and deposited elsewhere. (Imagine the sight of the gang-bangers and crack dealers packing up and driving into the sunset…. tres kewl and more than worth the $3.7 million for the removal of Jordan’s B/S).
Goodbye Mr. Hat… you’re just another peon (and a failed one at that) now.

So, you become the first Afro-American D.A. in the city’s history, so’s ya’s goes in, fire all the white folks and hire Blacks to replace them and think everything is tres kewl with this shit?

You lose the case against the wrongfully fired, and every damned appeal you can muster, and now you state that the city must pay the fine? That we are somewhat responsible for your paranoia and Racist insanity? Have you lost your bat-shit lunatic Racist mind?
You who can’t get a big indictment to save your soul?

Fuck you Bro! You played the race card and then couldn’t perform your job and we have to pay for your criminal actions. Fuck you twice Bro. Savvy? I’m not paying the damages from the Racial purging by one of any fucking Race in government. Damned cocksucker…
You should pay the $3.2 Mil for your crime, and if you can’t pull it off, then your children are liable for the damages, not those of us who are innocent of your sick mind and it’s neurosis. You are the criminal, and YOU must pay the price Mr. Jordan. (They are going to love you being a cell-mate in Angola.)

The other path Mr.Jordan is that you resign your office as D.A. and the city will cover your debt. You will be barred for life from seeking elective office. (Don’t like that one, ‘eh?)

Is My Newly Re-elected State Senator… A Criminal?

From the T-P comes an article concerning money laundering in which Derrick Shepherd with aiding a convicted felon by writing the checks out as if it was for work he performed for the defendant.

“Special Agent Peter Smith testified that Shepherd, a lawyer who often handles personal-injury cases, attempted to make his dealings with bond broker Gwendolyn Joseph Moyo appear legitimate by writing the words “settlement proceeds” on the memo lines of the checks.

However, investigators have found no evidence that Shepherd did any legal work for Moyo, Smith said, although he said that Shepherd had delivered a “vague invoice” to a federal grand jury to explain the payments. The document was basically illegible, Smith said.

“To me, it looks like he was trying to disguise it, to make it look like this was for a personal-injury case,” Smith said of the notations in the checks’ memo lines.

“I suppose the government takes the position that it’s money laundering?” Moyo’s attorney, Pat Fanning, asked Smith.

“Yes,” Smith testified.”

“It was that order that led Moyo to Shepherd, according to Smith. The agent testified that Moyo spoke with a number of lawyers about her problem, which had left her unable to cash checks made out to her firm.

Smith said that Moyo told investigators that it was Shepherd who, a month after the crackdown, hit on the solution: Moyo would sign over her uncashed checks and he would deposit them in an account he controlled.

According to Smith, Moyo signed over five checks totaling $140,686 to Shepherd’s account. Two of the checks indicated they were for bond fees.

During the same week, Shepherd moved $55,000 from one of his accounts to another, and then wrote three checks to Moyo, also totaling $55,000, from the second account. Those were the checks labeled “settlement proceeds.”

I’m glad I voted for Shawn Barney. Shepherd is a fuckmook.

Malcolm Suber For City Council-At-Large

Well the elections take place in NOLA in eight days, and I hadn’t made a decision for the City Council At-Large position. That’s fairly odd for one such as myself: I start with my candidate and hang in there for the long haul, but this cycle saw me scratching my head when looking out over a field of contenders vying for the seat. I am totally unimpressed by the same old faces who are running, and then my soul was saved by the Nation and this article.

But longtime contributor Adolph Reed, Jr., an expatriate New Orleanian, made a special case for the importance of Malcolm Suber’s campaign for city council in that beleaguered city, where the most vulnerable of Katrina’s victims have far too few political representatives fighting for their interests. Here is his letter to progressives concerned about New Orleans’ future.

I have been a faithful reader of the Nation for the last 37 years. It is Progressive and has never steered me wrong. The very fact that they published this piece speaks volumes to me. I’m voting for Malcolm Suber.

The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has just recently released (Yeppers, something about a storm coming clouded my mind and I didn’t post on it then.) their Third Annual report on the Corrupt Members of Congress.

Good old brothers Dollar Bill and Sinnator Davy have stepped up to the plate and proudly represent that Nawlin’s Brand.

Brother Bill, Brother Dave… I would so very much like, from the depths of my Bohemian soul, standing here at the Pulpit, the Holy Pulpit of the Church of the Light That Is New Orleans, to say that the two of you have done so much for the Gret Stet by your actions ably representing us up in the District to embark upon a great mission for all of us parishoners here.

We humbly ask in the name of the Church for you two Wise Men to attempt a journey of thousands of miles and many, many years, in search of the Holy Elixir of Crustal Rebound that shall save the Gret Stet from a watery grave. We also please beg your Holy selves to take our Wise Man C. Ray with you.

We will also daily pray for you whilst you are on this perilous Journey, even though it might lead to the Depths of Hell.

What A Collection of Buffoons

Well we here in New Orleans have an election coming up next month and the Council-At Large’s candidates scare the Hell out of me. Many of the freaks on the list I know only by reputation as I didn’t return to the City until 2002. Some of them I have personally witnessed after they had their “Kool-aid”, and that is a memory seared into my brain. Others are just part of a mythos to me.

So in order to shed some light on the freak show, I’ll be linking you to other Bloggers on the NOLA stage that have far more history with these nut jobs. Schroeder over at People Get Ready has a good post on some of these folks today.

There will be other links coming over the next few days as I’m finally starting to get over my illness/depression of the last two weeks. (I promise…)
