Gentilly Girl- a part of the 99%

I Am Beyond Pissed Off-

We are getting screwed over and over. Hundreds of millions of dollars over 40 years and our floodwalls collapse flooding 80% of the city. Four years down the line, and many hundreds of millions more, the Corpse of Engineers says that they will have to close the gates on the London Ave Canal at 2.5 feet?

I thought these assholes spent those millions of $$$ to make the floodwalls stronger.  I believed that these people gave a shit about us.  I thought that they cared…

Obviously not.

Well, we are at 9+ foot and worst-case scenario is 8.5 foot for flooding.  We have a back-up generator and soon solar, to keep us going. We have enough food for 2 months and we can purify water, but what about the others that couldn’t pull off what we did?

They are fucked, plain and simple.

They repaired their flooded slab-on-grade houses trusting in the Corpse, but to no avail. Many of us warned them, but they wouldn’t listen. Now it’s time to see the possibilities of the Future.

The Federal and State Guv;mits don;t care about US. The Port and the oil yes, but not about us who live in this wonderful city. (well they do love the brothels…)

I’m going back in time to Ashley Morris- we must secede from the Gret Stet and take our royalties from the gas/oil industries and then hire the Dutch to save us.  Middle America does not care about us. Our ancestors were sold along with the land two centuries ago, and our way of living is abhorrent to thier supposed minds.

We are New Orleanians and this country must pay reparations for the damages to our homeland and our people.

Time To Go Back To Blogging

Over the last few months my Blogging has almost become non-existant. It’s not that I don’t have enough to rant about… I’m just tired. Four years of slogging and smacking down mooks for being stooopid on top of the cares of rebuilding our home and lives, care for friends and love for New Orleans have taken much out of me. It has also upset that delicate balance that I had acheieved years ago with my little dance with HIV.

For months I’ve been more of a news aggregator funneling good pieces onto dear old FB and just letting the chips fall as they will. I had gotten away from what I started doing right after the Flood in educating folks about what was going down here and explaining the arcane systems that the powers-that-be had concocted for the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast. One-liners followed by a link doesn’t fit the bill in my book.

This weekend I was with many of us original NOLA Bloggers for the Rising Tide 4. I felt connected again and so proud of what they continue to do even now at the eve of the 4th anniversary of the Federal Flood. I realized that I wasn’t a parrot, but an owl. My life has spread half-way around the World twice, I have the Blessing to be able to have been able to rebuild my life and Being as it must be and I am surrounded, physically and in cyber with some of the best souls I have ever known. Some of the folk there asked why I had gotten quiet on my Blog, that they missed the rants and the snarky diatribesand the Tales of Our City.

The Blog no longer had any meat.

There has to be the meat, the processing of a news article by a person in order to make sense, show some relation and postulate what a political decision can lead to down the line.

So I’m going back to Blogging more regularly. If someone trashes New Orleans of the Gulf Coast, I am going to freaking eat you alive. Some politician wants new rules that will be to our disadvantage here, I will dig to refute or abuse you in creative ways. And when I just want to talk about life or my beloved New Orleans, I will do just that. There is a story to be told about a chunk of the country that has been used and abused for the Nation’s benefit but is sadly lacking when it comes to being helped to heal. (the volunteers who have come understand and we hail them). I’m talking State and Federal governments and the oil/gas companies. I’m talking about the destruction of our wetlands… the disregard for the folk of the swamps as just fools and simple folk. About buying a populace and culture and just running it into the ground because “people of this region do not count”.

Yes we do. Without us and the sacrifices over the last century the rest of the U.S. would not have what it has now. Our homeland, bought as just swamp and some chattel have been almost crushed, but life still flows here.

Dear America, Have a Happy Birthday!

Well Darlin’s this day makes Year 233 A.R. (After Revolution).  We all should be proud of the fact that somehow the strange collection of folks that have lived through those years managed to keep it all together (The War Between the States was a major blip on the screen…), and so much has been done by the people of this Nation. I can’t say by the Nation because the people are the Nation. It has always been up to citizens to create, build and advance our lives here and to provide for the ones to come.

I am proud to be an American.  I’m proud of the service I rendered in the Navy to help protect this country. But…  I am upset with the Government for the slow, and possibly non-existent rebuilding along the Gulf Coast after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike.  Many private people stepped up to the plate to help all os along the Coast out from the devastation, but the Government has been sorely lacking, especially for those of us in New Orleans who lost almost everything from the failure of the Federally  designed and built floodwalls and levees.  Betty and I lost 95% of our pasts and four years of our lives fighting to rebuild our little world. Many others have lost and they have yet to be able to get to the restoration point that we have reached. Along the Coast many of us feel as if America, the Government, has forgotten us.  We know that America the People didn’t.

The Church of Our Lady of Gentilly wishes many Blessings to the American People. Party hearty!

Aacckkkkk!!!! Bush Squeeks about NOLA and Katrina

I have spent all day listening to the Bushite referring to his Admins’ response to the damage from katrina and the Federal fuck-up we here call the Flood. Response? I don’t remember a true response.

Response? When 9/11 happened he sat staring a a child’s book for some minutes, but Katrina and the Flood? It took days before he did a “fly over” the disaster zones.  One of the oldest cities in the U.S. was drowning, many of those who wanted to return to rebuild were in freakin’ exile, and the bastard couldn’t land his plane and get his hands dirty digging out the remains of a dying city?

His excuse was that he didn’t want to interrupt the police from doing their jobs?

Fuck me! You have the Secret Service and you are the Commander-In-Chief of our military forces and you are worried about fucking up the cops in a devastated/depopulated zone? Are you fucking serious? Do you actually remember that week? How many fingers am I holding up? (wrong… I was just holding up my middle finger you mook.)

What exactly did you invest in the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast Mr. Lame Duck President? We sank almost $300K in rebuilding our part of the city and that still isn’t enough. We veterans still don’t have a true, full fledged hospital to honor the pledge made to those of us who gave up years of our lives in service to the country. The poor have no place to live since your HUD allowed the destruction of the Projects.

Mr. Bush (I never voted for you and you ain’t Prez in my book),  I happen to hate your guts. Fuck your storied Racist ancestors or that worthless bag of bones called your father (Gotcha! Thought I was referring to Babs ‘eh?) We are one of the oldest parts of this Nation and we have bled, not only in blood but in oil and gas for this country. We have been carved apart (physically) by the very companies you praise to fuel a Nation at the detriment of us losing the very soil underneath our feet, and you think we should be thanking you?

George baby, you are the worst creature I’ve ever run across, and I have seen the scum of the Earth.

Just STFU and vanish from the scene. We’ll find a way to have you takened to the World Court for war crimes and please forgive us if we yawn when they give you that lethal injection. (I’ll have a whiskey tonic and then just shrug.)

Wear Red Comrade!

From SILENCE IS VIOLENCE-

January 9-
“Strike Against Crime”

One week from today, on January 9, 2009, we will Strike Against

Crime to send a message to the New Orleans city leadership—

and to each other—that we continue to stand in solidarity as a

city, determined to defy the violence that grips our streets and

neighborhoods.  The year has not begun well: Three murders

scarred the city during the first 12 hours of 2009, and armed

robberies have been prevalent over the past week.

What would happen if the fear and danger we all live with

were to shut down our participation in the amazing energy

that defines New Orleans?  What if every business that

feels threatened by crime were to close, and every

frightened citizen to stay home?  These are the

questions that moved us to call for a “Strike” next week.

We are not asking that citizens necessarily stay home

from work—that would be too detrimental to many

families and to the small businesses that fill New

Orleans. But we are asking that you find some way

to express the toll violence takes on your individual

life, the lives of your family and neighbors, and your

jobs and businesses. We have already heard from

many of you who plan to take public, pro-active

actions that speak both to the crushing violence,

and to the under-served community needs that

could challenge this violence.

Beginning this weekend, we will post a list of planned

actions and activities for Friday, January 9 and the

Strike Against Crime.  For now, we have two specific

requests for participation:
1. If you are a retail business owner, please join us in

contributing 5% of next Friday’s sales to a public safety

or social justice-oriented non-profit organization.

This amount will mirror your city sales tax contribution

for one day.  SilenceIsViolence will provide a list of

suggested non-profit organizations, with brief

descriptions of their missions, to be beneficiaries

of these donations.
2. We have printed yard signs that will serve as crime

self-reporting tools for next week and beyond.

“Crime Happened Here” signs will be available

beginning today at Sound Cafe and through

neighborhood organizations.  We ask that people

use them to mark known crime locations before

next Friday’s strike.

If you have an activity or demonstration that you are

planning for next Friday, please let us know what it is

and we will share the information as part of this citywide

event.  Some examples include: youth resources tables

in playgrounds around town; a community soccer event

to highlight the need for community activities; a Peace

motorcade through violence-ridden neighborhoods; a

public film screening with an anti-violence message.

Use your imagination and send us your plans.

Wherever you are next Friday, wear something red.

This is how we will signal our pledge to each other to

start the peace within our own families and communities.

This speaks for itself Gentle Readers. I’m a member

of the Irish Channel Republican Army and I will be

wearing red to show solidarity with my brothers and

sisters in the battle for our city and the fight against

unbridled violence.

Paint Party at David’s House

Silence is Violence and NoLA Rising are teaming up for a Paint Party in order to protest the ineffectivness of NOPD and the D.A.’s Office on matters of crime within our city. This protest will take place at the home of Willow and Feather who have created a wonderful memorial to Willow’s son David who was murdered in ’01.

The reason for the choice of venue is outlined in an article from today’s T-P.

I think the neighbors, the Taylors, who so much want to have Willow remove her expressions of love are true fuckmooks, especially when they moved into the neighborhood years after Willow started on her memorial to her lost son. They feel it hurts their property value, but did they not notice the house next to the one they were purchasing at the time?

Yet another example of outsiders coming in, smacking down $$$ for a home in an old neighborhood and then going bat-shit insane when they finally realize that the culture they were surrounded by wasn’t exactly their cup of tea. And then they attempt to stop our cultural expressions to suit their desires. They will not win… you either “get” New Orleans or you don’t. If the latter is true, get the Hell out of our city.

Why Can’t I Have a Free Car, Gas and Insurance?

I do my job as a proactive citizen- helped create a neighborhood association to work on the rebuilding of NOLA, am a 10 year Veteran of the military, work on Trans and LGBT issues, fight for food banks and just keep up on the news about what’s really going down here. Why don’t I have a city-payed car?

Yes Gentle Readers, the above is pure snark.

The point of this is that the city provides free vehicles, insurance and fuel for many city employees. Why the Hell must my tax dollars go to provide a car for someone who works for the city? None of my past employers gave me a free car, and I was a General Manager for some of the largest bookstores in the country.  Being in the Navy didn’t get me a car. These people who are hired/appointed by the City to jobs don’t own cars?

There are only a few positions in city government that should provide individual vehicles for workers, and that’s Mayor, City Council, the Fire Chief and our top medical advisor. And NO… they can’t take them home. And city-paid fuel should only be for official duties. (Commuting from home to work and back is not an official duty. )

Our City Inspector General (yes, the same position our Mayor tried not to finance), just issued his first report on City spending on vehicles just from the Administration offices… it is a glaring example of waste considering that these are OUR servants. The full text of the report is here.

It is far past time for the fuckmooks to be taken down a few notches. They are abusing the citizens of the City and mostly never deliver on what their job provisions require (or they bring the deals in over budget).

We, the people of New Orleans, MUST reclaim our power as citizens.

And Mayor Nagin is trying to assert his “authoriti” concerning the City’s budget, and I’m leaving that poop to others to illuminate the junkyard of Nagin’s minions.

I Am Not Dying, Just Exhausted

Filed under: Gentilly,Nagin's Minions,New Orleans,NOLA Politics,Sinn Fein — Morwen Madrigal @ 10:24 pm

3.5 hours at the V.A. today with my Doc and many others. My low weight is fine, but I need more carbs. Need bloodwork for the HIV, but I look very well.  Yes I need some meds to help sleep and work on my anxiety over New Orleans’ fate. These things can be fixed.

My bleeding prob will be fixed next month. The Ovarian/Uterine worries will be resolved by tests. The sinus/tinnitus probs are to be resolved. Everything is within allowable parameters.

It’s about stress and not having seen a doc for years. Doc said I was worried about too many things, especially about my health condition, our house and the City.  There’s a ton of bloodwork ahead, but this guy is great with HIV stuffs.  He knows my history, and the fact that I violate all of the thoughts on the course of this disease. The rationale is that I have worn myself out whilst trying to fight many issues. (Of course y’all knew that I would go to that point.)

I will not stop on these issues. Now I can calm down on what all of this work is doing to my body. And this verifies that the Third Battle for New Orleans keeps me alive. One must have a reason to exist, and I freakin’ have one- the Soul of New Orleans. Even if I must leave this plane, New Orleans and Her folks must be restored.

Considering the B/S of Mayor Nagin and his business friends, I just might live forever. Works for me Darlin’s.

After my inquisition I headed to Krystal for some Murder Burgers and continued to the Starlight. I chomped away whist talking to friends about what is going down in the community. Had a few cocktails too. Realized that the angst/anxieity/depression of being a rebuilder in the City can make for some strange feelings.  I’m tired, but Doc Oct saved my life today.  What I’m feeling is the fight, not my mortality.

I ain’t going anywhere but New Orleans.

Geek Dinner at our house next month, and I will be able to celebrate all that we NOLA Bloggers have worked for. There is no reason to back down now. The Goddess protects those who PROTECT.  And… It’s time for planning Rising Tide IV. This year nothing will stop me from from being a more active member than last year.

I am NOT going away anytime soon.  The Bitch from Gentilly shall abide, and she will fight like all Hell.
