Mayor Nagin Suspends the NCDC

Here is my letter to the City Council concerning Mayor ( Corporate Capitalist) Nagin’s suspension of the demolition oversight of the Neighborhood Conservation District Committee-

As a co-founder of the Gentilly Civic Improvement Association and the Rising Tide, I am alarmed by Mayor Nagin’s suspension of the NCDC’s oversight over demolitions of homes/buildings.

Yes, there are many places that should be demolished due to unsafe conditions, but many can be saved as their owners are trying to put together the funds with which to finance the repairs. It would be a crying shame if perfectly good homes and buildings are destroyed just because the Mayor has made a “decision”.

You are OUR City Council. You are OUR representatives. You are OUR City’s protection against outrages such as that fomented by Mayor Nagin and his developer friends. As a city, it would be a major loss to have gaping holes within neighborhoods, especially when there seems to be no upkeep on the vacant lots.

New Orleans has a flavor, one that is totally unique in this country. The feel that a person has whilst walking the streets looking at a continuity of History is one of connection and pride of place. It shows how much we love our little place within the suburban sprawl that contaminates most of our country. It’s what makes New Orleans, “New Orleans”.

Please, please don’t let Mayor Nagin begin a wholesale demolition of the city without some form of oversight. My partner and I have invested heavily in rebuilding our home, but some of our neighbors are still struggling to get to where we are right now. They deserve the chance to pull it together, but Mayor Nagin’s decree concerning the suspension of the NCDC takes that chance away.

Mayor Nagin has chosen the wrong path to the restoration of New Orleans. It is up to all of you to keep this City on the right path as we rebuild our wonderful home. Otherwise, we the people of New Orleans may just have to take matters into our own hands to stop this outrageous infingement of our independent rights as homeowners.

Sincerely,

Miss Morwen niAnne Madrigal,

Republican Ticket = Lies

Yes, I did get to see some of last speaches from that dung-heap called the Repug Convention. McInsane’s words were boring, but Sarah Palin’s bullshit pushed me over the edge. If, and only if, the Repugs win the Presidency and McInsane dies in office, this bitch will be trying to roll back so many of the gains of Women’s and LGBT Civil Rights gains over the last 40 years.

We have fought too long and too hard to allow the forces of ignorance to destroy our lives and freedoms. We do not wish to enter the Dark Ages again. Never again the Burning Times. Never again to be ruled by religious mooks that hate who and what we are.

I’m still digging dirt on Palin, and yes I will be very active during the last two months of this campaign, but I just had to tell you about this collection of Palin’s actions and lies.

Curtsey to the Humid Haney Rant.

No Fucking Shit

I am not going here right now, but this guy does hit the mark on many levels. (and I thought Nagin was paying special attention to Bush’s penis with his tongue. Guess one can’t please every dickless wonder.)  Go here for more.

BTW- DR. Blakely is not worth a bullet or the soil to cover his sorry ass.

C. Ray? Following the Bushite’s lead, believing in the Shock Doctrine and pleasuring the only 50 supporters you actually have is what you is deserve coming to bite you on the  fucking ass.

Just Say “NO” to Entergy

Gentle Readers, many of you know my complete disregard and mistrust I have for electric/gas Utility companies. They hold a monopoly over our lives and our pocket books.  Under Entergy New Orleans we are as rats on a cage and the utility does what it wishes to us for the sake of their shareholders. This shit must stop or the rebuilding effort here is going to die on the vine.

For the latest threat to our ability to live here, I must direct you to the American Zombie’s take on the topic.  (Yes… go read it! I can wait)

There are two main reasons I champion Alternative forms of energy- one is the lessening of harm to the planet and it’s denizens, and the other is the use of what Nature provides as energy that is Goddess-given to each and every one of us (no one can own the tides, or the wind, or the Sun or the temperature variations  of the Earth’s crust. ) These are the gifts given freely and are not subject to the whims of a corporate Board or the demands of shareholders in said corporation.

Betts and I have already taken the first steps to independance on this issue by rebuilding Green and getting the Geo-thermal system in. The next step is the final one needed to cut the umbilical cord, and that is adding the Solar system to complete the changeover. I’ll be meeting with a company in the next week in order to facilitate our possibly being a model home (using a 70 year old house) to prove the workability of the concept of home energy freedom.  It won’t eliminate our need for Natural Gas for the stove and our back-up generator, but our excess power production will provide more than enough roll-over credits to cover that expense.

Soon our carbon-footprint, just like our utility bill, will only be the size of a baby’s shoe.

More details on the Entergy poop, the further Greening of the house and a water purication system to recycle grey water to come as the info arrives.

My Intertubes Are Getting Tied

I am fucking pissed off.

Tomorrow I will not have internet access for the next eight damn days due to the laws that protect the fuckmook Telecom companies. The State law Act 736 which prevents municipalities from providing their own wireless systems is allowing AT&T to shut down my wireless Broadband that they had been providing here since 2/06. The reason for this is that the law demands parity between wireless systems and the “wired” systems as far as data speed goes. This means that advances in wireless BB technology are useless and cannot compete against the dinosaurs like ComCast, AT&T, Cox and the others. It also prevents dish systems from selling internet services where laws like this are in effect. ( go to Dish Network’s site, and look to see what services they can provide, then click on Looziana for Internet access… it only lists the wired ISPs, not satellite.)

I actually think that those of us who had Bellsouth’s wireless BB in New Orleans should file a Class-Action suit over this stupid law. I was one of the first to get this tech when it started here and I was never informed that this system was “temporary”. I paid $240 for the modem, and all AT&T offered me for the switch-over to their DSL was a free $85 modem. Fuck them. They also wanted $5 more a month for the service. “Free installation” doesn’t cut it in my book. I and the others who used the system have gotten screwed by this shit.

And I am very angry because this “law” is screwing up our ability to operate online during a storm whilst the wired system can be blown down or get flooded. My self-sustainability concept has taken a big hit. Our house can take up to a 9 foot flood, our Solar and  back-up generator will still be working, our cells don’t use towers here (they will function), the house will be stocked up with food and water for at least a month, but if the wired system goes down we are helpless as far as our work and income goes.

Television news will never give us the information we need about what is going on here and in the world. We will just be mushrooms- kept in the dark and fed shit. This is the 21st Century damn it- it is a time when many of us here live by their connection to the world via our ‘puters.  Our connections and jobs are increasingly dependent upon our machines. (The folks who commute burn so much gasoline… we fill up every 2 or 3 weeks. Our carbon footprint is relatively small compared to most of them.) The dream of the Future is being stymied by Dinosaurius Wiredus Telecomus since they want to keep making huge profits whilst providing an inferior product. The advance of technology spells their extinction and they are fighting tooth and nail to prevent that. This is completely wrong and evil.

It is time to slay the Beast. To advance all of our Natural Rights to move forward as Homo Futurus even if it means they die off.

It’s about moving into the Future. To grow and “become”.

Yes, I’m greatly fucking pissed off. To the Telecoms, “Fuck You You Fucking Fucks”. Our day is coming and you will be destroyed.

So mote it be.

Note- Due to the need to keep shuffling my online stored info into safe places, I don’t have time to provide links to the stuffs above. I have 9 hours left to finish organizing and protecting 9+ years of research and contacts in a coherent manner. (I’ll go bat shit insane if I just dump it all in the ‘puter willy-nilly.) When I get back online I’m going to be writing pieces on this topic as often as I can. Death to Dinosaurius Wiredus Telecomus! Death I say!

BTW- Comment moderation is in effect here. I won’t be able to approve them until next week, but please feel free to leave comments. I would like to know what you think about this situation.

‘Til then, have a Blessed week Gentle Readers. I go now to have my Intertubes tied. Fuck!

“We Don’t Need No Stinking Corporate Sponsors…”

It seems that our “wonderful” invisible Mayor was trying to sell out OUR traditions to the Corporate Pigs.

Mr. Nagin, OUR city’s gov’ment ain’t no freakin’ company: it belongs to the citizens. You are not a fucking CEO, you are OUR servant. Same holds true for anyone who works for OUR city gov’ment. You work for US.

The Social Contract states that we help each other, that we care for each other, and that we arrive at a common scheme of governance. Those who are part of that governance structure obey US. Get that one you jerks?

Not one of you fuckers have the right to sell our culture, our souls, our lives to the highest bidder. We will not allow any company’s “Brand” on us. We are not serfs.  And you and those misfits you have placed in City Hall are not overlords. (Remember the term “Civil Servants”?)

There will be no “Muses, sponsored by Monsanto” or “Proteus by Phillips”. Or “Comus provided by Chevrolet”.

We are the people of this city. This is our culture, our way of living… it is our heart. It is alive, just as it’s been for three centuries. This city is ours, you corporate whack-job.  We are New Orleans, and without us all that will exist is a freak-show Disney version of the real thing. New Orleans, the city and the soul, belongs to US, not you and your corporate B/S.

In other words you SOB, we ain’t for sale.

My ancestors helped found this city, carving a place to live out of the swamps. Some of my family were “Free People of Color”. A few others were Haitians that drove the French from their island. Some of my forebearers were pirates, others fished the seas. Many are my elders that died fighting for our country and the reason for it’s existence. They lived their lives, just as I do.
“This Land is My Land, this Land is Your Land…”. Get the fucking picture you fucking corporate slaves?

Why don’t you, Mr. Nagin and gang, stop trying to brand and sell us, and instead actually do your damn jobs as OUR servants? Otherwise we will storm the Bastille, and you fucks will be toast. (Remember last year?)

New Orleans is OURS. We ain’t for sale. OUR culture belongs only to US, not your corporate masters. We will not be “Branded”.

Sinn Fein!

Ripping A Soul Apart

This week has been nothing but pain. The house is coming along, but I keep seeing the faces of the boys that died during the Crisis. I’m freakin’ feeling guilty: I still live. Working through the feelings of pain, loss and guilt are nothing but torture. (Last night a friend of ours almost lost it over the death of his good friend last Christmas Eve… I had to come out of my funk in order to try to help.)
Death is no stranger to me: my mom died in my arms when I was 13. That was the start for me: I wound up dealing with the AIDS Crisis a decade later. (do you have any idea what it feels like when everyone but yourself dies in a week from your Billiards team? How about finding out that your clerks are dead?) I remember my friend Adam having to have a lobotomy due to his AIDS dementia: he couldn’t remember my name when I would show to clean his home. I remember bailing a good friend out of jail because of the medications not working well together. I remember taking my coven to the top of Bernal Heights one night to show them the  “void” of light over S.F. General Hospital.
I lived that life, and the now current purging of New Orleans reeks of the same shit. I will not tolerate it.
Decades ago I dedicated my life to service. I knew what the cost was, but I also understood the benefit. (not that I knew that I’d be having nightmares and B/S, not to mention acts of kindness that still haunt me.)
When the Federal Flood happened, I made my decision to fight for New Orleans. Yeppers, my partner Betts tells me to STFU at times, but I continue the fight. The catz sit on my desk whilst I’m going crazy, but they know that Grand Ma is focussed. They understand. Do you understand me?
And ya’s know what? Ya’s don’t want me to go Freya on your asses… I have a ton of catz to unleash. I don’t wish to do that.
Alright, we must fight for Public Housing. We who stand for New Orleans must be there.
We cannot allow outsiders to determine the the future of our city, our home. This place is OURS dammit! New Orleans is our place, and the mother-fucking outsiders should have no say about our future.

At the risk of getting my tail feathers singed, I was the first here in NOLA to bring up Klien’s book “The Shock Doctrine”. Here is an article from ZNet that tells it like it is.

This coming week is the time for those of us who love New Orleans to prove how much we believe in this place… the proof of the pudding when it comes to love of place. Getting our house back means little when thousands of others are denied homes.

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER Darlin’s.

I will never be able to have a peaceful sleep in our almost fixed home if I know that there is a Grannie, or an Auntie, Uncle, Grandpa… who cries because they cannot return home, can’t be with their families.

My lament over these last few decades was that I could not die, that the Goddess would not let me die. I’ve always wondered what the reason for that shit. Now I know… the Fourth Battle of New Orleans starts soon. It’s about Humanity over dollars, a Human breath against the ticker tape from the Stock Market. The value of Life and Living…

If you have a heart, and a soul… work with us to stop the destruction of all of these homes. Please, please… don’t let this crime happen. We will pay for this in the Future if it goes down this way.

Barbarians At the Gates

Since the Federal Flood of our city I have been monitoring the news, especially concerning the Projects. Know now that I AM NOT a fan of the Projects, but I do understand the need for them at this point in time. People need to be able to come home. (And these folks aren’t the crack-head murderers… they are the Elders who care for the kids and act as teachers)

ThinkNOLA has a piece by Professor Quigley concerning this topic.

I will be at one of the complexes that HUD wants to bulldoze on the appointed day. I’m going to stand for my fellow citizens and against the money/Repug machine’s desires.

Once again this is our time to stand against the money pigs and reclaim our city, our home. We know what New Orleans means… now we have to stand for the most vernerable of our folks. It is time to prove that color doesn’t matter in this city, only love and trust… acceptance… NOLA is our bloodtype. We MUST fight for the soul of our city.

More On the “Shock Doctrine”

A few weeks ago I wrote a post on an excerpt from Guardian concerning Naomi Klein’s “The Shock Doctrine”. Didn’t seem like much was happening  very much on this topic, but now it’s picking up steam as Klein is doing her promotion gigs  for her book.

Try this out: John Cusack’s interview with Klein.

Curtsey to Suspect Device. and the Zombie.

I’m happy that this book is getting notice down here in Da Swamp.
