A Louisiana Recovery Authority committee recommended Wednesday that the agency’s full board adopt a resolution supporting a proposed amendment to the state Constitution that would funnel any new federal Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas revenue received by the state to coastal protection efforts.
The LRA’s Coastal Protection Committee also endorsed a second resolution supporting Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s recent actions aimed at blocking sales of federal oil and gas leases until the federal government accurately assesses the environmental impact of offshore drilling on coastal Louisiana and takes “serious steps” to mitigate it.
The second resolution also endorses recent efforts in Congress to share a portion of the federal revenue from offshore oil and gas leases with Louisiana and other coastal states.
