The mother-fucking Christian assholes and Yuppies have finally found a way to destroy one of the best Pagan and Queer celebrations in this country.
I saw this coming in ‘95 (not this, but the influence of non- San Franciscan dot-com money pigs buying up the landscape). That’s why I had to leave: a retail manager couldn’t exist with the Yuppies pushing up property values and rents.
The reason I am posting this, outside of the fact that we used the Halloween Celebration to help fund HIV issues for 15 years, is that it could easily happen here. Not just Halloween, but all that we hold as sacred, a part of our Culture could go down the shitter because the “new” arrivals to our city “Just don’t like it”.
I lost my San Francisco to the Yuppie assholes and their ways. I will not lose this battle for the soul of New Orleans. Fuck Yuppies, fuck the rich that desire once-a year condos. Stay out of our city you sliming pieces of money.

I saw the NY Times (aka Pravda-Upon-Hudson) version of the same article. Ugh. I think you’re right re: it’s a battle for the soul of a place.
Sad to say, this becomes in some respects a lot like the people who scream “reverse discrimination” within nanoseconds of any decision that broadens civil rights of anyone who’s not a white male…oh, and for the record, I was not aware of Eddie Jordan’s lunacy in firing the ADA’s until recently–now THAT was something to legitimately complain about, but NOT every perceived slight, especially when said slight is, yes, a lot MORE perception and a lot LESS reality.
Well, anyway…I’m all in favor of celebrations, pagan, atheist, queer, straight, what have you, although this All Hallow’s Eve I’ll probably be just hanging by the house. Oh well. I’ve had plenty of fun in years past…

I don’t know how much you’ve posted about it, but I assume you’re paying some attention to riverfront development plans. The only way those big expensive buildings won’t be empty is if the condos are bought up by rich out-of-towners.
I don’t want to use your blog to put in a plug for my city council candidate, especially since I can’t believe I’m supporting her, but I did notice that one of the runoff candidates got donations from the people behind “reinventing the crescent” and the other runoff candidate received a donation from the president of a group watchdogging NOBC.

I’m not anti-Yuppie… there are all kinds of folk in the world. What pisses me off is moneyed folk busting their way into a culture and then demanding that the world fall into accordance with their desires.
“Sorry babes… we were here first”.
Same goes for cash being handed out: You want to give us $2 m for our land? Fuck you. This is our home, we love the place, and you can go shopping in the rest of the area
David, as for the politicians: give me the data and I will fly with it.

it’s ok, I don’t think they are a threat. If they get on their pedastals and start dictating we can just let our criminal element loose on them.
